EQUIPMENT OLD

The Cube offers a wide variety of 3D printers, 3D scanners, electronic prototyping equipment, laser and water cutters, and traditional manufacturing equipment.

Please note that while the following printers are accessible to all students, many of these have high operating costs. Therefore, most projects will be printed on our Bambu Lab printers. In most applications, these printers produce prints comparable to our more expensive printers. Nonetheless, our industrial printers will be used for individual projects that require their features.

Which printer is best for my project?

For most projects we recommend one of our Bambu Lab P1S printers. They are extremely reliable and are capable of printing at high resolutions.

If you need higher detail or extremely small parts, we recommend one of our resin printers.

For larger prints, we recommend our Bambu Lab H2D or H2S, Elegoo Orange Storm Giga, or Stratasys F270.

What filament should I choose?

For most applications, PLA on our Bambu Lab printers is more than suitable.

Alternatively, we offer ABS, PETG, TPU, Polycarbonate, carbon reinforced nylons along with other specialty filaments.

The brunt of our 3D printing workload is handled by our farm of 9 Bambu Lab P1Ss. The P1S offers a wide variety of color options in PLA. The Bambu Lab printers are extremely reliable and perfect for cost effective and rapid prototyping.

The FDM printers are open to all students, faculty and staff. Attend one of our 3DPrinterOS classes to get started.

The Formlabs printers print at a higher resolution with more capable materials. All parts are washed in isopropyl alcohol and exposed to the factory recommended cure cycle. Users remove their own support materials. Capable of making tight tolerance end-use parts.

The Formlabs printers are open to all students, faculty, and staff who have need for its capabilities. Email thecube@eng.ua.edu for more information or to submit a part to be printed.
