The Cube offers a wide variety of 3D printers as well as 3D scanners, electronic prototyping equipment, laser cutters, and traditional manufacturing equipment.

Please note that while the following printers are accessible to all students, most have rather high operating costs. Therefore, most projects will be printed on our Dremels. In most applications, these printers produce prints comparable to even our most expensive printers. Nonetheless, our industrial printers will be used for personal projects that show the need.

Choosing Questions

Which printer is best for my project?

For most projects we recommend one of our Dremel 3D45 printers. They are extremely reliable and are capable of printing at high resolutions.

If you need higher detail or extremely small parts, we recommend one of our resin printers.

For larger prints, we recommend our Ultimaker S5 or Dimension. Both the Dimension and S5 feature a large print volume and soluble support material.

What filament should I choose?

For most applications, PLA on our Dremels is more than suitable.

Alternatively, ABS and Onyx, used by the Dimension and MarkForged respectively, are slightly stronger than PLA and more resilent to heat.

The Cube also maintains small stocks of Carbon Fiber, Kevlar, and other fibers for the MarkForged MK II.

Plastic 3D Printers (FFF/FDM)

Model Count Material Compatibiliy Build Volume Layer Resolution (μm) Submission Method
Dremel 3D45 8 PLA 10" x 6" x 6" 50 - 300 3DprinterOS
Dremel 3D45

The brunt of our 3D printing workload is handled by our farm of 8 Dremel 3D45s. The Dremels offer a wide variety of color options in PLA. The Dremels are extremely reliable and perfect for cost effective and rapid prototyping.

The Dremels are open to all students, faculty, and staff. Attend one of our 3DprinterOS classes to get started.

Ultimaker S5 1 PLA, Tough PLA, PVA 13" x 9" x 11" 50 - 300 3DprinterOS
Ultimaker S5

The Ultimaker S5 is the middle sibling in our FDM printer family, positioned between the 3D45s and the Dimension. Like the Dimension, it has solubule support and a large build volume. However, its operating costs are much lower than the Dimension, akin to the Dremels.

The Ultimaker is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Attend one of our 3DprinterOS classes to get started.

MarkForged MK II 1 Onyx, Carbon Fiber, Kevlar 12" x 5" x 6" 100 - 200 Project Submission Form
MarkForged Mark II

The MarkForged MK II is a very special printer, even for a dual extruder printer. The primary extruder prints either a nylon or onyx blend while the secondary extruder handles Continous Fiber Deposition (CCF or CFD). Using this secondary extuder, the MarkForged is able to reinforce its prints with one a of a few fiber types: carbon fiber makes parts generally stronger, kevlar allows for higher ductility, and fiberglass for exposure to higher temperatures.

The MarkForged is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Fill out the Project Submission Form to get started.

Dimension 1200es 1 ABS, Soluble 10" x 10" x 12" 50 - 300 Project Submission Form
Dimension 1200es

The Dimension is one of our high level industrial printers. Like the Ultimaker, it uses dual extruders to enable soluble support. The Dimension prints exclusively in ABS to produce strong and reliable prints.

The Dimension is open to all students, faculty, and staff who exibit need for its capabilities. Fill out the Project Submission Form to get started.

Resin 3D Printers (SLA)

Model Count Material Compatibiliy Build Volume Layer Resolution (μm) Submission Method Information
Form 3 1 Resin 6" x 6" x 7" 25 - 200 Project Submission Form Information
Form 3

The Form 3 is the Cube's most cost effective resin printer. The Form 3 uses stereolithography to produce extremely low layer heights and high detail prints.

The Form 3 is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Fill out the Project Submission Form to get started.

Projet 2500 Plus 1 Resin 11" x 8" x 5" 32 Project Submission Form Information
Projet 2500

The Projet 2500 is our industrial resin printer. Like the Form 3, it produces very high detail prints, however has a significantly larger bed. This allows the 2500 to produce large batches of intricate parts more efficiently.

The Projet 2500 is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Fill out the Project Submission Form to get started.

Specialty Printers

Projet 460 Plus 1 Powder 8" x 8" x 10" 4 Project Submission Form Information
Projet 460

The Projet 460 uses standard 2D printer ink cartriges to inject color into a powder. A glue-like substance is then sprayed onto the power solidifying it. This allows the 460 to produce colored prints.
